What is the time commitment?

Students are expected to attend practices/rehearsals during after school hours twice per week on Mondays and Thursdays throughout the fall and spring semesters. As end-of-semester performances approach, additional rehearsals may be added. Additionally, performances will take place throughout each semester. Parents/guardians will be notified as performances are added to our calendar.

How much does the program cost?

Thanks to partnerships with generous donors and community grants, there is no cost to be a member of AngelStreet!

Where do we sign up?

Auditions are held during school hours at Memphis Scholars Caldwell-Guthrie Elementary School, Kipp Collegiate Elementary and Middle Schools in October and January.  Dates will be posted on flyers in schools.
Auditions are simple; just show up and sing a solo of a song of your choice (no explicit lyrics, please).

What type of music do you teach/perform?

All genres of music are included in our curriculum, but we primarily learn contemporary songs.  As the Holidays approach, Christmas-themed music will be taught and performed.  Oftentimes, we receive requests to sing at churches and for faith-based events so we do have some worship, Gospel, and Contemporary Christian songs that we sing.

Will transportation be provided?

Students must have individual transportation for pick-up from Bickford (North Memphis) and STREETS (Graham Heights) weekly. Transportation to/from performances will be provided for participating students. Parents will always be notified of drop-off and pick-up locations.

Does AngelStreet have a religious affiliation?

While our organization is based on faith, our programming focus is on musical training, mentoring, and leadership development. Every staff member has a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. All mentoring is based on faith and we are often invited to perform during worship services and at Christian events. We welcome all young ladies to audition to perform in our program, regardless of religious affiliation.

How may parents/guardians get involved?

We love and encourage family involvement!  AngelStreet seeks to partner with parents/guardians in investing in the lives of your students.  If a parent/guardian is interested in volunteering with us, please contact us!

What happens after my child graduates?

We desire to partner with the young ladies through their post-high school education goals. We provide an opportunity for participants to apply for a small scholarship to help with some school expenses during the first year of college or trade school. Additionally, we highly encourage our program graduates to return as mentors to younger participants and advocate for our organization.

Who are the staff and mentors that lead the program?

Our all-female staff consists of professionals in the music, youth development, executive, sales, and/or arts communities. Each member on our teaching team is a talented musician with years of experience in vocal technique, performance excellence, songwriting, recording, and instrumental skill.
